The month of December is a constant countdown to Christmas day for many. The 25th of December is the day the kids wake up early in the morning and not complain, the sense of joy fills the air. Family members gather around at the living room for gifts then head to church for worship. Christmas is sometimes forgotten for its true celebration purpose, its traditions passed down, and its storyline history.
Why do we celebrate Christmas? Well, Christmas is to honor the birth of Jesus Christ. The bible does not state that he was born on the 25th. But this date was picked by Christians because he was making a source of “light” during the darkest parts of the year. This date also represents a symbolic meaning of the ¨Son of Righteousness¨. The birth of Jesus signifies the “incarnation” of God becoming a human. We celebrate the peace, joy, and values that are given to us from God, because of Jesus being our savior.
Christmas has many traditions that are found in numerous households. One being the most popular, the decorated tree! The tree has lights, ornaments, and sometimes even candy canes. Exchanging gifts from family and friends in the morning is also a big tradition. Many kids believe in Santa, he is remembered as the gift giver and to make sure you are “behaved” in order to get gifts. Kids leave treats for Santa and the reindeer as well, and check on Christmas morning if they were eaten. Stocking sully hang near the fireplace and are filled in the morning of Christmas. Some families even play games all together. These are only a few traditions that are used during Christmas.
Holidays all come with their very own traditional foods and desserts. During Christmas dinner ham is usually served with optional sides. Cranberries and cookies are also really big dessert option. Foods may differ depending on the countries that you celebrate in. Some families make gingerbread houses and decorate them with all different sweets to share. Deserts are usually covered in the colors red, green, white, and brown.
Christmas is the time for joy that is celebrated world wide, and celebrates the birth of Jesus. It is important to remember what exactly you are celebrating about.
