It all started during a big snowstorm, and as the health workers were departing from a COVID-19 event, they went car to car injecting several drivers before several doses expired. According to the Josephine County Public Health Department, the “impromptu vaccine clinic” took place after 20 vaccination clinic employees were stopped in a traffic jam on Tuesday.

In Medford, Oregon, CBS affiliate KTVL-TV reported that they were stuck near Hayes Hill while on the way to Grants Pass after a vaccination clinic in Illinois Valley High School.

Six doses were earmarked for the people in Grants Pass but according to the health department that said in a Facebook post, the snow induced traffic jam meant that these doses would have expired by the time the road was cleared.

KTVL-TV informed that these doses are only good for six hours after they are opened. The staff decided to offer the passengers of each vehicle to give people a vaccine.

The health officials said that all doses were administered, and one was to a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office employee who had arrived too tardy for that clinic but ended up stopping to help the others.

According to Mike Weber, the director of Josephine County Public Health, he said that it was one of the coolest operations he’s been to.
