Recently the mayor of New York, Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement concerning the safety in the New York subways.

Their main focus is stop homeless people from sheltering in the subways. Already eight incidents have occurred resulting in three deaths: Michelle Alyssa Go, a 40 year old woman was pushed in front of a moving train and passed away immediately, a 31 year old Asian man was stabbed on his left forearm and a 30 year female was struck by a metal pipe. This is horrific, unimaginable and it needs to stop.

I have been keeping tabs on the subway situation and what really sticks out to me is that these attacks are mostly directed towards Asian Americans or females and its becoming a real problem because now the citizens of New york are scared to take the subway, in fear that they might be the next victim.

I know there have been a couple of arrests, the most recent was a guy named Christian Jeffers who was arrested on Wednesday for assault, aggravated harassment and menacing each as a hate crime against an Asian man.

I hope justice is served and that the situation gets resolved quickly and taken seriously in the future.
